Like most runners, you’ve probably tried following a training program you found in a running book or magazine – or on a running web site. The problem with these generic programs is that they don’t take into account your individual health and lifestyle history, past training and racing experience, future training and racing goals, or current fitness level. Furthermore, what works for one runner may not work for another. That’s why I offer customized training programs that are based on each runner’s individual needs. To create your personalized program, I incorporate the following three steps.
STEP ONE: THE COACHING QUESTIONNAIRE
After signing up, you'll be asked to complete the Coaching Questionnaire, which will provide important information about your individual health and lifestyle history, past training and racing experience, future training and racing goals, and current fitness level. While this detailed questionnaire may seem overwhelming at first, it is THE critical component of your individualized training program. Once you complete the questionnaire, you’ll submit it to me, along with a signed Waiver of Liability.
STEP TWO: EVALUATION AND FOLLOW UP
As soon as I receive your completed questionnaire and waiver, I'll begin evaluating the information you provided. If necessary, I’ll follow up with you to gather more information or to clarify the information you provided. I typically conduct any follow-up via telephone at no extra charge; however, we can do it via email if you’d prefer.
STEP THREE: DESIGN AND DELIVERY
Once I’m comfortable that I have all the necessary information, I'll design and deliver a fully customized six-week program just for you. Why six weeks? That’s the minimum amount of time the body requires for training adaptations, according to research in exercise physiology and human kinetics. As you’ll see below, you can purchase from one to four six-week packages at a time. This design process will take no longer than 7 – 10 days to complete from the time I receive your completed questionnaire and waiver to the time you receive your training program. Once you receive your program, I’ll answer any questions you might have (via email or telephone) and then you’re ready to begin. My virtual coaching packages include free email consultations for the entire length of the training program you purchase. However, phone consultations (after the initial design stage) are billed separately.

Athletes in the Denver or Boulder, CO area can choose this option, which includes two face-to-face meetings during the six-week training cycle, beginning with an in-person evaluation and review of the coaching questionnaire (versus a telephone review). This option gives me the opportunity to see you in action, helping me evaluate your stride, posture, arm swing, foot strike… Because of the increased time commitment on my part, it’s a little more expensive than my virtual coaching packages; however, it’s ideal for runners who would like a little more personal contact with their coach.

I am not currently affiliated with any fitness clubs, so it is difficult for me to offer these services. (Most clubs have policies against the use of outside personal trainers.)
